Technology for tomorrow

eNtsa - Innovation through engineering

Commercialisation of developed technologies, engineering services and high technology human resource capability is a key strategic objective for the eNtsa management team. Focus is placed on activities that will enrich the local engineering community, create new economy (jobs) and will support future sustainability of NMMU and eNtsa, through direct (joint projects) and indirect (royalties) partnerships with commercial entities it will incubate.

WeldCore® is a locally developed (Proudly South African) material sampling and repair technology for the power generation- and petro-chemical industry. This technology is a result of 15 years of research at NMMU which through the efforts of the eNtsa team received international accreditation from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). This friction taper hydro-pillar welding and repair process, has saved the local power generation and petro-chemical industries billions of rands. This status has sanctioned the application of the technology in high integrity plants and equipment designed and manufactured accordance of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC).

The WeldCore® technology has been tested and validated, internationally accredited and packaged within a spin-off company, known as Mantacor (Pty) Ltd. Mantacor is a spin-off company established by Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) to commercialise the WeldCore® and related technologies, developed by eNtsa staff and students. Mantacor’s services portfolio will assist the power generation and petro-chemical industry to determine and manage the safe operating lifetime of critical plant components.
